Sarkkara payar

Made a quickie sweet the other day, since I had some boiled pacha payar (green gram) ready. Kiddoos would love this.

Green gram (pacha payar) – 50 grams
Jaggery – 25 grams
Coconut (grated) – 20 grams
Cardamom powder - little
Salt – a pinch.

  • Soak the green gram (pacha payar) overnight.
  • Pressure cook the green gram until it is soft and mushy.
  • In a kadai, add the jaggery and little water. Let the jaggery melt.
  • Add a drop of milk to remove the impurities.
  • Let the jaggery boil for about 2 minutes.
  • Add a pinch of salt, the coconut and the boiled green gram.
  • Stir and let the mixture thicken.
  • Add cardamom powder and remove from heat.

Serve hot or cold.
