Pizza Sticks

I took this idea from Veggie platter and it was an instant hit. I made this for dinner and within no time the pan was empty. These pizza sticks were also looking very neat with cheese oozing out of them.

I am not elaborating how to make the dough here since I elaborated the same just 2 posts before in pizza. I used the same method of dough preparation - just the rolling and cutting into slices makes the difference here.

This baking marathon is actually making life a little difficult for me since I chose to diet at this time. Probably I chose the wrong time. But H is enjoying. He has all the cookies / cakes for himself. And all the baked items have either lot of butter or lot of sugar or both. So I try to restrict my self with just one piece or one cookie and so on. This pizza sticks was very helpful since I contended with just 1 stick. I am searching for guilt free recipes to continue with the rest of the bakes - I have to arrive at around 10 more. There are lot of guilt free snacks that other marathoners have posted. The challenge for me would be to do those now.

Ingredients:

For the dough:

All purpose flour  - 1 and 1/2 cup
Dry yeast   - 2 and 1/2 tsp
Warm water - 1/4 cup
Milk - 1/4 cup
Sugar - 1 tsp
Salt  - 1/2 tsp
Olive oil -  1 tblsp

Toppings:

Grated mozzarella Cheese - 3/4 cup
Pasta sauce  -  1/4 cup
Red chilli flakes -  As needed
Oregano   - as needed
Basil leaves
Mixed veggies (for pizza topping)*

* I used mushrooms, tomatoes and green peppers.

Method:

Dough preparation:
Please follow the dough preparation steps from pizza post

Making Pizza sticks:
Gently deflate the dough before using. Line a baking tray with aluminium foil or butter sheet. Preheat the oven to 200 degree celsius.

Place the dough ball directly on the tray and spread it into a rectangle shape. I used my hands since the dough was very smooth.
Slice the dough into smaller rectangles. If the end slices have contracted spread it again.

Spread pizza sauce and sprinkle cheese over the slices. Top it up with vegetables and spices.
Place the tray and bake it in the oven until the cheese melts and the ends turn slight brown. Mine took approximately 20 minutes.

Remove from the oven and slice them along the previously made cuts.
Serve immediately with sauce.

  3. Baking and dieting doesnt go well together. Thats why we had 6 months to prepare. And yet, like you, I too started baking at the last minute and ended up munching on a lot of sweet bakes :D. The pizza stick look awesome, btw. Take off the cheese and you have got yourself a good guiltfree dinner.
