Kheema Dosa

We bloggers are kick-starting another month long marathon today and we have a wonderful theme this month. We will be posting protein rich dishes. I have decided to take sub themes every week. So the first week I am posting recipes with beef as the major participant.

Beef is the culinary name for meat from cattle, particularly skeletal muscle. Humans have been eating beef since prehistoric times. Beef is a source of high-quality protein and essential nutrients. Though I don't eat beef, people at home are big fan of beef. So I keep innovating new dishes so as to make the dishes interesting for them.

The idea of making a kheema dosa was copied from one of the recipes served in Anjappar restaurants. They serve kheema dosa where the kheema is made from mutton (goat meat). I have made the recipe from my understanding of the taste, i didn't surf the internet to find a recipe. People at home loved it and now this has become a dinner recipe atleast once in 2 weeks.

Ingredients:

Dosa batter - 2 cups
Cooked beef - 1 cup
Eggs - 2
Oil – 2 tblspn
Onion – 1 large chopped finely
Green Chillies – 2 chopped finely
Curry leaves – 1 sprig
Tomato – 1 large chopped finely
Ginger Garlic Paste – 1 tblspn
Chilli Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Powder / Malli Podi – 1 tblspn
Turmeric Powder / Manjal Podi – 1 tsp
Garam Masala Powder – 1 tblspn
Pepper Powder – 1 tsp
Coriander Leaves a handful chopped finely

Method:

  • Take the cooked beef in a mixer jar. Just pulse it to make it into minced beef.
  • Heat oil in a kadai, add in onions, chillies and curry leaves. Add little salt and cook for 2 to 3 mins.
  • Add in ginger garlic paste and saute for a min.
  • Add in spice powders, mix well. Now add in tomatoes and cook for 5 mins.
  • Now add in kheema and saute for 5 mins.
  • Fry this on high heat till it gets dry, add in pepper powder and coriander leaves. Mix well Kheema is done.
  • Crack egg in a bowl, season with salt and pepper. Whip till mixed.
  • Heat a tawa, pour small dosa, spoon some egg mix over it, drizzle oil over it and top with kheema and coriander leaves.  Cook till bottom crisp up.
  • Flip over and cook for a min.
Kheema dosa is ready!! No side dish is needed to eat this..

Notes:

Don't grind the beef; just pulse it.
Kheema can be made with any meat or with soya chunks also.

  12. During my daughter's wedding we decided to take our early guests to an Anjappar restaurant in Bangalore. Everyone could order what they wanted, veg or no veg. We were 40 people and none of them complained about the food. They all loved it. Meat is definitely a great source of protein and its so satisfying when the family enjoyed a dish you've prepared for the first time.
