Ulli vada

Ulli vada aka Onion pakoda is a quick and easy to make snack since most of the items would be available at home.

Ingredients:
Gram flour – 50 grams
Onion – 150 grams
Green Chillies – 10 grams
Red chilly powder – 10 grams
Fennel seeds – 5 grams
Coriander leaves
Water – ½ cup
Oil – to fry

Salt to taste

Method:

  • Finely chop the onions and green chillies.
  • In bowl, mix the onions, green chillies, gram flour, salt, red chilly powder and mix thoroughly with hand.
  • Crush the fennel seeds and add the same to the above mix. Add coriander leaves.
  • Add water little by little and make into a paste such that you are able to make balls out of it or any other shape.
  • In a kadai pour oil.
  • Check if the oil is hot enough by dropping a pinch of the mix. It should raise in oil immediately.
  • Make small balls of the mix and drop in oil or else drop it in without any shape. I go for the second one.
  • Fry it until it turns dark brown. Remove from oil and keep it in a strainer/tissue paper to remove the excess oil.

Serve hot ulli vada aka onion pakodas with hot tea.

Note:
You can add one spoon of rice flour in the mix if you want the pakodas to be more crisp.
